In most cases a PET/CT scan is not used to image prostate cancer. However, physicians are finding increasingly that PET/CT imaging is useful in identifying fast-growing, aggressive tumors. It may also be substituted for a bone scan as a painless method of determining whether the prostate cancer has spread to the bone, as commonly occurs. For this purpose a special radiotracer, one that is readsily absorbed by the bone, is used.

    Abstract:  Development of an accurate non-invasive imaging technique to detect recurrent and metastatic prostate cancer is critical for the effective management of these patients.
