DICOM Definition

DICOM is defined as digital information for communication in medicine.  It is the file type for medical images.  Many are familiar with JPG or GIF image files.  Many are familiar with XLS files for microsoft excel.  DICOM or DCM is the file type for medical grade images such as MRI, CT, Ultrasound, X-ray, PET, and other imaging studies.
